Mykines Lighthouse is located on the narrow edge of the small island of Mykines in the Faroe Islands.  Getting to the island requires a ferry ride followed by an hour-long hike through unbelievable scenery to the lighthouse.  Hundreds of colonies of puffins live on Mykines Island.  Respecting the land and staying on the trails is necessary to avoid causing damage to the puffin habitat and the ecosystem.

The weather in the Faroe Islands is rainy, cold, and foggy.  Of my week-long trip, only one day was clear and sunny, and only for a few hours.  The fog and clouds are still appreciated, though, as they enable the creation of art with a darker, melancholy mood, which can be so powerful.  The strong line of the steep cliff, damp grass, and dirt pathway leads right to the lighthouse.  The depths of the encroaching fog leave one wondering what lies beyond.
